Business email compromise (BEC) scams are a form of “spear phishing,” in which a fraudulent email is sent to a person that is specifically targeted based on their access to critical systems and sensitive data.

Business email fraud

Protecting businesses from this type of scam requires vigilance on the part of employees, and especially for those who are responsible for managing or transferring funds or have access to human resource data.

Fraudulent emails can come from someone claiming to be the CEO or a company executive or a vendor who works with the company and is instructing the victim to transfer funds quickly.
